Ravishing in Red: Cate Blanchett Stuns in Armani Privé Gown

While going through celebrity photos, I just had to pause upon seeing Cate Blanchett in this showstopping, figure-hugging red gown.

Cate BlanchettCate Blanchett on the red carpet of the The 2nd AACTA at The Star Event Centre in Sydney, Australia – 30 Jan 2013

The actress looked stunning on the red carpet of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards. She wore a red gown from one of her favorite labels, Giorgio Armani Privé, from the Spring 2009 collection (sans the tassel accent). The gown is Asian-inspired with its cut and color; overall square sequins gave it a shimmering touch while the black trim, cap sleeves, plunging V-neckline and fishtail hem added interest to its already bold style. Black long drop earrings and side swept hair highlighted Cate’s features which was done with barely there make up.

I love the Oriental feel of this gown and with the coming Lunar Year, a dress such as this would be a perfect choice for the occasion. While a similar dress is pretty hard to find, I was able to find some dresses with a hint of Asian influence and tinges of sequins:

Nicole Kidman Goes for Floral Appliqués,Thigh-High Slit & New ‘Do

Nicole Kidman was a picture of elegance as she graced the red carpet of the Screen Actors Guild Awards yesterday. The star was nominated for two awards: best actress in a TV show or miniseries for HBO’s Hemingway & Gelhorn, and best actress in a motion picture for The Paperboy.

Nicole KidmanNicole Kidman arrives at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, California – 27 Jan 2013

The navy blue Vivienne Westwood Couture Marlene gown was a fitting choice for the 45-year-old actress. It features sequin floral lace appliqués with a thigh-high slit and a sheer neckline which she paired with black Manolo Blahnik stilettos.

What we love about her ensemble are the Fred Leighton jade drop earrings that provided a nice contrast to her navy gown. Her hair also departed from the usual curls we’ve seen her in on recent red carpet events; this time, she wore it straight and parted at the center.

Anne Hathaway Shines Anew in 2013 SAG Awards

Anne Hathaway is definitely on a winning streak. The Les Miserables star garnered another accolade at the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards where she received the Outstanding Female Actor in a Supporting Role win. This is Anne’s first time to receive an award from SAG.

Anne’s fashion choices on the red carpet always seem to garner nods — and nos — and this occasion is not an exception. The actress wore a black Giambattista Valli Spring 2013 Couture dress with a fitted sequin- and crystal-embellished bodice and skirt with a tulle overlay and sheer neckline.

More sparkle was seen on her black Jimmy Choo shoes, Kwiat jewels and Eddie Parker clutch which Anne carried with aplomb.

Jaimie Alexander Captivates in a Crystal & Sequin Cutout Dress

Jamie Alexander Close UpJaimie Alexander arrives at ‘The Last Stand” U.K. film premiere held at the Odeon West End, London – 22 Jan 2013

Thor actress Jaimie Alexander has been turning heads quite recently for her knockout looks while promoting her new movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Last Stand. The celeb showed us that she didn’t need the star power of Arnold to shine on the red carpet. She stole the spotlight from the actor and former governor himself during their movie premieres with her gorgeous dresses, the previous one a silk emerald gown which she wore to the German premiere.

Jamie Alexander

At the London premiere, Jaimie wore a stunning and heavily-embellished Marc Bouwer Pre-Fall 2012 cutout minidress with Nicholas Kirkwood snakeskin heels. The dress also featured padded shoulders and a plunging neckline. Check out the lovely detailing of the dress below:

Dress Detail

The front part of the dress features crystal embellishments on the straps and front panel plus sequin embroidery at the sides. The back also showcases the sequin and crystal pattern except for the skirt which was left bare. We are so floored by the beauty of this dress — and the actress as well — and we want to see more of her in lovely frocks such as this.

Of course, we want this Marc Bouwer creation but it’s not available online and the price tag would be a different story so we searched for style options instead which we hope you’ll like. These dresses feature cutouts and sequins:

How to Wear Your Little Sequin Dress during Daytime

The holiday fetes have long been over and the little sequin dress you partied in might now be stashed or hung in a sad little corner of your closet. But what’s nice to know about sequins is that they aren’t only for special occasions, they’re also perfect for daytime when paired with more casual pieces.

While it may be a little tricky to transform this glittering piece from night to day ensembles, there are just a few simple things you need to know for a little sequin remix. Let’s check out how some bloggers have styled their little sequin dresses and breathed new life into them.

Rebekah shares in her blog that this is her new year outfit. We love her green and gold sequin dress which she matched with a leatherette jacket with gold studs and hardware. When wearing a sequin dress, you can streamline your look by wearing black opaque tights and shoes such as these platform Mary Janes Rebekah wore.

A slouchy sweater also works for toning down the sparkles while maintaining a chic vibe. Blogger Kriste shows us how to layer with her H&M burgundy sweater and a sheer dress on top of her Zara sequin dress. A fringed bag, floppy hat and lace-up ankle boots lend a 70s retro feel.

We just love how Sarah turned her little sequin dress into a top! Sarah paired her H&M sequin dress with white pants and over-the-knee boots. A faux fur vest in grey also softened her look.

Tip: If you want to transform your mini dress into a blouse just like Sarah did, make sure it isn’t thick or long enough to make it bulge at the waist or hips. Sarah shares in her blog that a fitted or bodycon dress is all you need.
